Points South

Two months ago, we were at the tip of South America, in Patagonia.  Today, shifting continents, we were thrilled to visit Africa's Cape of Good Hope.

The windswept landscape was reminiscent of above tree line in North America.  But, obviously, we were at sea level.  On one side was the stormy Atlantic Ocean.  On the other, a calm and flat Indian Ocean.

Here I am with Oscar, Cape Point behind and below us.

Just in case we forgot we were in Africa, a handful of baboons, ostriches and zebras were on hand to remind us.

This smart ostrich was standing there to hide from the wind

Like Patagonia, the southern tip of Africa was full of rainbows today.  That's the Cape of Good Hope below, surrounded by a briny, frightening Atlantic Ocean.

Here's Ruby, almost equidistant from NY and Beijing. On Sunday, we head east, to Hong Kong.

Of course, being at the bottom of the Southern Hemisphere, a few penguins were on hand.  These African penguins have made a strong comeback at Boulders Beach.

Tomorrow, we go shark diving with great whites!  Yikes.

(We are behind with blogging, will post soon about Johannesburg, Kruger, and Capetown.)
