BA Steakwatch: 9

OK, I'm done.  We've been here for 14 days, and this is Steakwatch 9.  I left out one forgettable burger dinner with Oscar, and I just finished off a full meal of steak leftovers.  So that's 11 beef meals in 14 days.  I think I can say that I've done the BA steak thing.  As for regrets...only 2.  First, that while I covered most of the cuts I was looking for, I somehow missed vacio, or the local version of flank steak.  Second, while the wines have been excellent (and better than their Chilean equivalents for the most part), I haven't ventured much beyond the famed Malbecs, and I'm sorry I never got a chance to get into the Cabernets.

Yesterday, we had lunch at Parilla Peña, a nearby place which is like the BA equivalent of Peter Luger.  It's often included in the lists of top steakhouses in the city, but unlike many, it is entirely devoid of frills - plain interior, serious waiters and some seriously good steak.  One of my favorite places we've eaten at here.

The kids weren't too hungry, but Yo and I did what we could...

We split a double Ojo de Bife (rib eye) platter - 2 big steaks plus fries for $16.

We also shared a Tiro de Asado, which is a tasty cut of short ribs cut the "wrong" way.  Kind of reminded me of the Korean BBQ dish, LA-style Kalbi.  Really tasty, but a touch dry.  And with none of the delicious Korean spice.  Next to the ribs are a couple of "chorizos", which are more like what Americans would call just pork sausage, rather than chorizo.  The ribs were $9.

Here's the Asadero hard at work.
