For Steakwatch 7, I had some help from the family. After a visit to one of BA's most famous attractions, the famed Recoleta Cemetery, we all decided we needed a beef fix. So we stopped in at a typical Recoleta cafe for lunch.
Oscar had a Plato de Hamburgesa, which is basically a burger without the bun. The burger is under the fried egg, and next to the bacon and fries in the photo. I thought it was delicious, since it was just some nice chopped steak, grilled black on the outside and red on the inside. I think Oscar was hoping it would have been more like an American burger. Ruby had the same thing, minus the egg, in a bun.
Yo had a Lomito Sandwich, which is a big piece of rare filet on a bun. Not at all like a steak sandwich in the the US, which is typically leftover sliced steak. This wasn't even sliced. To their credit, most Argentines wouldn't dream of picking this up to eat with their hands like my American wife here - this is a knife and fork meal for civilized South Americans.
I tried something a bit different here, the daily lunch special, which was Colita de Cuadril, or something like American Tri-tip Steak. It was roasted, rather than grilled, and served with veggies, potatoes and gravy. Sort of like Argentine pot roast - delish!
I didn't write down the exact prices for any of these. But they were all under $10.
