A day without steak is like...frankly, a bit of a relief at this point. Today is day 7 in BA and my first day without beef. That said, I can still blog about last night's "Baby Bife" at Melo, home of the very nice Ojo de Bife in Steakwatch 2.
We returned to Melo with out friend from our Fu rafting trip, Dinah. She opted for the Ojo de Bife, while I decided to branch out into something new. Questionable move. The Baby Bife is a small "Chorizo de Bife", which is very similar to a New York Strip (and has nothing to do with sausage). It was tasty to be sure, but I wasn't that happy with how well done it was, particularly after I agreed with the waiter to bring it "muy jugoso" (very rare). And you can see from the photo that it was a nice size, not as huge as a typical BA cut. Nonetheless, the food at Melo was still excellent all around - salads, pastas, melted cheese, salmon, desserts - and even if my steak was a bit overdone, I had my fill by sampling Dinah's, which was cooked to perfection (you can see it in the upper right of the photo).
$7.50 with choice of salad or fries.
