One nice and unexpected highlight of our time in Santiago: Catching up for a drink with our old Princeton friend, Howie Katz, who happened to be visiting Santiago from his home in Oakland, to meet his girlfriend Tania’s family. (Thank you, Facebook!) Yo and I had been good friends with Howie in college, but since then, he’s lived in Paris, Prague and in the Bay Area, and we’ve lost touch – seeing each other only every five years at reunions. Since college, Howie has gone from being a software engineer to entrepreneur to visual/conceptual artist in addition to moving between cities and continents. As a big fan of positive reinvention, I’m inspired by all that he has done and the life he has been leading, although quite different than mine in some ways. And since I’m feeling a bit down about having to miss our 25th Princeton Reunion this June, I was happy to see one of the people I’d most like to catch up with, here in Chile (turns out Howie isn’t going either.)
